Steve's Canoe Build

While the die hards were freezing their bits off paddling during the winter of 2005/6 Steve undertook to build a wooden cedar strip canoe. For those in the know it is a 'Ranger' prospector - a 15' Canadian designed by Ted Moores as detailed in his book 'Canoecraft'.

Steve built the building frame and the forming mould before laying on the cedar strip planking using the stapleless technique. After that the next major job was sheathing the completed, filled and sanded hull in fibreglass using 'West' fibreglass cloth and two part epoxy, giving a high gloss transparent coating to both the inside and outside of the canoe.
